Our emergency Paediatric First Aid syllabus, adaptable for both Nursery Assistants and Nurses looking after pre-school age and older children will comprise:
-
Offer face-to-face teaching over a 6-hour period (excluding breaks);
-
Enable participants to deliver an excellent standard of Paediatric First Aid (PFA) for pre-school and older children in emergency situations;
-
Enable carers to provide PFA in accidents and trauma, including scalds and burns;
-
Allow carers of children to recognise an acutely ill child and deliver first response care;
-
Show providers how to maintain a situation until an ambulance comes;
-
Explain how pre-school children differ from older children and adults.
The Syllabus. Focussed learning points will enable participants how to:

Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take;
-
Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally;
-
Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally;
-
Help a baby or child who is having a seizure;
-
Help a baby or child who is choking;
-
Help a baby or child who is bleeding;
-
Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock; and
-
Help a baby or child who has suffered a burn or scald.
