Our emergency Paediatric First Aid syllabus, adaptable for both Nursery Assistants and Nurses looking after pre-school age and older children will comprise:

 

  1. Offer face-to-face teaching over a 6-hour period (excluding breaks);

  2. Enable participants to deliver an excellent standard of Paediatric First Aid (PFA) for pre-school and older children in emergency situations;

  3. Enable carers to provide PFA in accidents and trauma, including scalds and burns;

  4. Allow carers of children to recognise an acutely ill child and deliver first response care; 

  5. Show providers how to maintain a situation until an ambulance comes;

  6. Explain how pre-school children differ from older children and adults.

The Syllabus.  Focussed learning points will enable participants how to:

  • Be able to assess an emergency situation and prioritise what action to take; 

  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and breathing normally; 

  • Help a baby or child who is unresponsive and not breathing normally; 

  • Help a baby or child who is having a seizure; 

  • Help a baby or child who is choking; 

  • Help a baby or child who is bleeding; 

  • Help a baby or child who is suffering from shock; and

  • Help a baby or child who has suffered a burn or scald.
